Human centred design

The challenge for this project was all based around human centred design and anthropometrics. The product I was given to design / re-design was a powered hand sander, this product was already a very functional and ergonomically designed product therefore it was both easy and difficult to design a ergonomically pleasing product
At the start of this project concept generation was done to create ideas and designs which could make a more ergonomic product.

Once looking at anthropometric data a large range of handles were made, these were made using a lathe. After making these prototypes they were given to a large number of uses to test comfort, the top handles was 4 ,9 and 11, this was because of the curvature of the forms. A part of the handles which was altered was the shape it was originally circular but was changed to an oval for more comfort.
Development sketches and prototypes were done to finalise the design of the product.
Instead of making a product physically look like the real life product I we had to make a works like model which represented all the working components and features of the products, such as the rotation wire section.
A part of the project was to make illustrations of the product to show how the overall product would look.
